Electricity flows through the coil to heat the air as the fan pushes it round the oven; once the filament inside burns out, that stops happening even though the rest of the oven still powers on normally. Look for a split, bulge or dark scorched patch on the coil to confirm it.

Fitting is a straightforward job, usually done in under an hour with a Phillips screwdriver. Isolate the appliance from the mains first.
